A PRAYER DURING RECONSTRUCTION OF OUR PARISH HOUSE

God of Love and Grace, you have been calling us together in this place for many years.

You have been present with previous Christ Church congregants who found themselves in need of a place to gather for fellowship and learning, for celebrations and deliberations, in good times and in difficult times.

Many cups of coffee and tea have been shared here and many friendships in Christ have been created and nourished here. Many people have found lives of sobriety through the AA meetings here.

May this generation of Christ Church members be the sure, steady, and loving home with Christ as our center and sure-foundation.

We ask your blessing upon all of those who have been or will be involved in this time of rebuilding. In all that they do, may they know that you are ever with them and that they are instruments of your blessing and grace. Protect them in their working and give them joy in all that they do.

Finally, may our new Parish House be an open and welcoming place
for us and for those who will make it their spiritual home. We ask these things in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who calls us all to be a community of welcome and peace. Amen.

Most gracious God who desires that all people live together in harmony and unity, and who has given us this land of great resources, opportunity and diversity of people, We ask that you bless this great occasion in the history of our country and unite us in our differences.

Most gracious and eternal God, We gather today as a grateful people to enjoy the many blessings you have bestowed on this nation. "We are grateful for your vision which inspired the founders of our nation to create this democratic experiment as one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

We are grateful to you that You have brought to these shores a multitude of people with many ethnic, religious and language backgrounds, and yet have fashioned one nation out of so many cultures and traditions.

Even as we celebrate this great moment, we remember before you the members of our armed forces. We commend them to your care. Give them courage to carry out their duties and courage to face the perils which beset them, and grant them always a sense
of your presence in all that they do.

Finally today, we are especially grateful for this inauguration which marks a new beginning in our journey as a people and a nation.

Fun was had by all at this year's Vestry and Staff Christmas Dinner held on December 8th at the Blue Water Grill. Your vestry has done an amazing job this past year. Bob Nelson, our fearless Senior Warden wore a fez and white robe given to him by our Treasurer, Gail Connolly. Gail brought these gifts back from Morocco. Bob's report was filled with thanksgiving and good humor as he recounted this year's challenges.

Wally and Liz Beitzel returned for a visit this Sunday before returning to their new home up north.

Jan Moore was honored on her birthday this past Sunday. Jan, Blaire and Kim Baily enjoy coffee hour after the 10 AM service.

New blinds have been installed in the offices upstairs to replace the old ones that were smoke damaged during the fire.

Landscaping is almost complete on the 412 property. By Sunday, the lawn should be in.

CHRIST CHURCH GOING GREEN

Mitchell Winn has volunteered to paint the peeling benches in the patio area as part of his Scouting program. Of course a good scout always includes his family in such service. I did not catch his Dad, Chuck on digits, but here is the rest of the family painting the benches green. Thank you, Mitchell and the whole Winn family.

PRAYER TREES

This past month two metal prayer trees were placed on the side chapel marble table. Each tree contains votive candles that can be lit as an outward and visible sign of a prayer you are offering. There will also be a small box between the two trees for donations to maintain the candle supply for this special place of prayer.

I have heard many people's prayers at this side chapel area. They run the whole gamut of Christian prayer: adoration, praise, thanksgiving, penitence, oblation, intercession, and petition (see pages 856-857 in The Book of Common Prayer,the Catechism, for the church's understanding of these types of prayer).

Prayer is anytime we respond to God, by thought and by deeds, with or without words and Christian prayer is response to God the Father, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord's prayer is the model for prayer that Jesus taught his disciples.

I hope that you will offer prayers at this place where the two trees wait to be filled with the light of God in the offering of prayers.

PAVING THE WAY

Sandy Pringle has made it much easier for us to sort our trash into bins of items which can be recycled. Sandy noted that it was very hard to get our trash bins in and out of the trash container storage area on the north side of the church. So, he tore down the old fencing and had a new multiple entrance area built. He also oversaw the pouring of cement for our bins to sit on making it easier to access individual bins and to put them out and bring them back in on trash days. Thank you, Sandy.

Bob and Sandie Nelson stand in front of the new bookcases in the rector's office. The bookcases replace the old ones that did not survive the move from the office to the warehouse for storage. They are also shopping for new blinds for the offices to replace the old ones.

Jan Moore is on her way to choir practice. Thank you, Jan, for the gift of music.

Kate and Paige sweep up the deck on the CE/Office building. Kate, Paige, and Taylor (see below) are completing 10 hours of community service as part of a course in Health that they are taking at Mira Costa during the summer. Thanks, Kate, Paige, and Taylor.

Senior Warden, Bob Nelson, went to the Santa Fe Springs warehouse where all of the contents of our parish hall and Church school and offices were stored to see what could and could not be salvaged. Thanks, Bob.

Jeanne Kipp keeps us stocked up for our weekly needs. After the fire, this closet that holds the provisions was a mess. Jeanne got in put back in order. Thanks, Jeanne.

Junior Warden, Susan Mulledy-DeFrank, took on the custodial closet and really got it cleaned up. She found many interesting things. Ask her. Thanks, Susan.

One of the other projects underway at Christ Church is the expanding and improving of the trash storage area on the north side of the church. Thanks to Sandy Pringle for planning and supervising this project.

Christ Church is going Fiber Optic this month. The installers were hard at work getting our offices set up with FIOS.
